*Purple Hibiscus is her second novel. Adichie is a talented poet; she has published a collection of poetry entitled Decisions. She chose the title of The Thing Around Your Neck for her most recent literary edition.

Her Young Adult novel Purple Hibiscus captures a childhood spent in an African country surrounded by political and emotional upheaval. This Bildungsroman novel gives the world a young girl who must come to terms with her family and herself in a far off country that is not really so far away, after all.
